Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma required or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited surgical technician training program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical skills and assist surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, and other professionals in the operating room.
• Operate electro-surgical, diagnostic, microscopic laser, video equipment, disposable equipment, as well as equipment unique to each specialty area.
• Updates and rewrites preference cards as indicated.
• In conjunction with the RN, conducts accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to departmental policies.
• Monitors for and calls attention to breaks in technique and communicates to the circulating RN and surgeons.
• Trains and assists turnover teams with operating room protocol and procedures for new and existing team members.
• Attends mandatory education programs and describes responsibilities related to safety and regulatory compliance.
• Attends department training on safety and hazards.
• Demonstrates proper body mechanics and wears proper identification on duty.
