With at least 3 years of experience in Neuro, Uro, Orthopedic, General, and Robotics, you will help set up the OR, pass instruments, maintain aseptic technique, and ensure equipment readiness for each case.

Description:The Surgical Technologist 1 functions in the inter-operative phase of patient care to expedite surgical procedures under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.This position assists the surgical team through the use of equipment and instrumentation to ensure that the operating room environment is safe.The Surgical Technologist ensures that required equipment is available and functioning properly.The individual discusses any special needs with the surgeon before surgery and scrubs in adequately for proper preparation of instruments before the surgeon scrubs in.They prepare the operative site by aseptically cleaning and patient clipping as needed.The Surgical Technologist prepares and maintains the instrument tables in an organized manner to avoid damage to instrumentation and incorrect needs or instrument counts.They identify damaged or incomplete trays and rectify discrepancies immediately to avoid delays or injury.The role involves setting up the operating room according to surgical procedure schedules, carefully selecting and opening only needed supplies.The individual ensures the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during procedures.They perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and miscellaneous items according to established policies and procedures.The Surgical Technologist anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team staff.They pass sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants during procedures and act to anticipate and respond to the surgical team's needs during surgery.The individual assists with draping and positioning the patient.They receive surgical specimens following specimen protocol and pass the specimen off the sterile field to the circulating nurse, verifying the source of the specimen.After the surgical case completion, they assist with placing surgical dressings to the operative site.The Surgical Technologist disassembles surgical instrumentation as indicated at the end of the procedure, recycles as indicated, and appropriately disposes of sharps, fluids, and waste.They prepare soiled instrumentation for proper transportation to the decontamination area.The individual ensures the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance, and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies for distribution.They clean the operating room following each case and return equipment to appropriate storage areas.The Surgical Technologist follows infection control policies and guidelines for perioperative practice to assure a safe work environment for themselves, coworkers, and patients.They ensure proper orientation and knowledge of all equipment and instrumentation prior to patient use.Knowledge of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards is important.The individual must understand the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.They should be knowledgeable about human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools and technologies to assist surgical teams with invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are necessary to interact effectively with surgical and sterile processing team members.There may be occasional exposure to chemical or radiation hazards.
