Description:The Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting in surgical procedures.The role includes preparing the operating room and ensuring all equipment is sterile.The technologist will assist with general surgery cases such as hernia repairs, exploratory laparotomy, and gall bladder procedures.Ortho cases include total joints and sports injuries.Other specialties include podiatry, ophthalmology (cataracts only), GYN (hysterectomy, salpingectomy, hysteroscopy), urology (cysto, stents, laser stone, TURP), and OB (C-section).The surgical team typically performs 13 to 15 cases in a day.Responsibilities include opening cases, setting up instruments, and maintaining a sterile environment for all procedures.Support staff includes receptionists, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, anesthesia providers, and transport workers.The facility uses an electronic medical record system and equipment such as IV pumps and medication dispensing systems.
