Job summary

Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC is seeking a Surgical Tech to join our Surgery Team. This full-time position supports the operating room by preparing instruments and maintaining sterile technique.

Responsibilities include assisting surgeons, passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and coordinating with the circulating nurse. The role requires excellent communication, teamwork, and adherence to procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for procedures by identifying, selecting and setting up instruments using aseptic technique.
• Inspects equipment and packaging to ensure sterility and proper function.
• Uses sterile processing principles for instruments and equipment.
• Performs proper hand washing and prepares OR field.
• Anticipates surgeons' needs for instruments and sutures.
• Keeps the operative field neat, clean and dry.
• Identifies and passes specimens to the circulating nurse after surgeon verification.
• Reports prostheses, drains and catheters to the circulating nurse.
• Disposes of used supplies per procedure.
• Assists with room clean up and set up.
• Returns reusable equipment to proper location.
• Counts sponges, instruments, and sharps before incision and at closure.
• Assists in positioning patient on the table.
• Performs tasks to facilitate continuity of patient care, including relief at breaks.
