Job summary

Astrana Health, Inc. is hiring a Surgical Tech at our hospital in Tustin, CA.

You will assist in the Operating Room, prepare and stock the OR before and after surgery, gather sterile supplies, and maintain strict aseptic technique to support patient safety and efficient surgical flow. You will coordinate with the circulating nurse, assist with instrument handling, transport equipment and specimens, and help position patients while protecting privacy.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Tech Program.
• English reading/writing and communication skills.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to safety standards and policies during all tasks.
• Maintains aseptic technique and corrects breaches promptly.
• Assists with patient positioning and monitors intraoperative status.
• Communicates with circulating nurse and surgical team about changes.
• Prepares sterile set-up and inventories instruments.
• Ensures smooth OR flow by updating preference cards and equipment.
• Performs scrub role and passes instruments as needed.
• Prepares, cleans, and maintains instruments and equipment.
• Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens.
• Sets up OR tables and supplies per case type.

Compensation: $28.00 - $38.00 / hour

Description

About the Role

The Surgical Tech is responsible for assisting with direct patient care activities in the Operating Room. Prepares and stocks the Operating Room before and after surgery, gathers clean and sterile supplies, sets sterile instrument fields, maintains and monitors aseptic techniques. Assists with proper positioning of patient while maintaining the privacy and dignity of the patient.

What You'll Do

• Adheres to all safety standards and policies (such as surgical, specimen collection, sterile processing, Title 22, JCAHO) as they relate while performing all responsibilities.
• Applies principles of aseptic technique and initiates prompt corrective action when breaks in aseptic technique occur.
• Remains attentive throughout the operative procedure, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and responds appropriately during emergency intraoperative crises.
• Maintains ongoing communication with the circulating nurse and other members of the surgical team regarding changes in patient status or the progress of surgery.
• Arranges and inventories sterile set-up for operation.
• Facilitates the smooth flow of the surgical intervention (i.e., prepares for the procedure with updated preference cards, knowledge of instruments and equipment).
• Performs scrub role (such as anticipating surgical team’s needs, passing of instruments, cutting sutures, etc.) according to standards.
• Prepares, cleans, and maintains instruments, equipment, and all surgical related items in accordance to established guidelines.
• Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens.
• Prepares operating room (OR) by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies in according to type of case/operative procedure.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Tech Program
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• AHA Basic Life Support
• Understanding of basic medical terminology
• High School Diploma or GED
• Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
• Computer literacy and proficiency

Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions

• Our organization follows an in person work structure where the expectation is to work onsite on a weekly basis. The hospital is located at 14662 Newport Ave, Tustin, CA 92780.
• The total compensation target pay range for this role is $28.00 - $38.00/hr. annually. The salary range represents our national target range for this role.
