IU Health Fort Wayne is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join a growing team in the Fort Wayne Hospital. You will help prepare and organize the OR with supplies and instruments, assist the surgeon during procedures, and ensure proper turnover and handling of specimens after operations.

You'll work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff in a fast-paced environment. Weekend shifts and on-call coverage are required as part of a full-time role.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) within four months of employment.
• Basic Life Support Certification required.
• Ability to resource advanced technology.
• 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
• Knowledge of various surgical procedures to anticipate needs of the surgeon.
• Knowledge of the name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
• Adherence to policies for maintaining a sterile field.

Responsabilités

• Assists before, during, and after surgical procedures by ensuring presence and proper arrangement of equipment, supplies, and instrumentation in the OR.
• Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by standards.
• Participates in turnover of the operating room after procedures and routes/ Processes specimens, equipment, and supplies.
• Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and other staff.

We be opening the hospital with 6 ORs and will add an additional 2 ORs by the end of the year for a total of 8. We will be offering several patient services include Robotics, Ortho, Neuro, Urology, Plastics, Colorectal and General services.

This is a full time position. Weekend and call required.

Surgical Skilled Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

• Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
• Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.

• Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
