Job summary

Providence Alaska Medical Center seeks a visionary Director, Surgical Services RN to lead operational, clinical, and financial aspects of Surgical Services. You will partner with physicians, oversee OR suites, and drive Magnet‑aligned practice in a complex, high‑acuity environment.

This hybrid role requires strategic oversight of Pre‑Op to Sterile Processing, with emphasis on patient safety, quality, and staff development within the Providence system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
• Alaska Registered Nurse License required upon hire.
• Master’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate organizational structure and leadership roles to ensure safety and clinical practice.
• Use staffing management principles to ensure adequate workforce supply.
• Monitor performance using operational and financial tools and quality metrics.
• Develop, implement, and manage the annual operating budget.
• Demonstrate stewardship of financial resources and budget monitoring.
• Collaborate with OR Medical Director and physicians to design and refine Surgical Services.
• Oversee facility renovations impacting Surgical Services.
• Represent Surgical Services on hospital and regional committees.
• Provide visionary leadership for nursing practice and quality improvement.
• Advance Magnet culture and evidence-based practice.
• Establish governance and nursing autonomy; support leadership development.
• Ensure performance evaluations and constructive feedback; staff engagement.
• Foster a high-satisfaction workforce and professional development.
• Collaborate with staff and families to promote care excellence.
• Maintain relationships across Providence system and external partners.
• Lead committees and possibly Administrator on Call responsibilities.
