Short Description

Assists the Clinical Director in leading the patient care team to meet the needs of the customers and to oversee clinical operations to achieve departmental objectives. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the direction, implementation, and evaluation of patient care services within the Perioperative Setting at the direction of the Clinical Director and in their absence.

  1. Actively coaches and supports staff. Assists the Clinical Director in providing a supportive environment for each team member’s professional growth and development. Continuously assesses the competency of all staff in conjunction with the Clinical Director and assists with written performance reviews as directed by the Clinical Director in a timely manner.
  2. Fosters a culture of shared decision-making by encouraging staff input regarding nursing practice and unit policies.
  3. Assists the Clinical Director with the provision of adequate, competent staffing levels on each shift.
  4. Assists the Clinical Director in the oversight of the delivery of patient care ensuring adherence to service, safety, and quality standards.
  5. Assists the Clinical Director in nursing clinical operational efficiencies, as well as monitoring and evaluating the use of supplies, equipment, materials, and other resources to reduce costs and increase efficiencies.
  6. Ensures equipment monitoring occurs at the required frequency. This includes but is not limited to refrigerators, freezers, autoclaves, defibrillators, and trauma carts.
  7. Ensures documentation is completed appropriately and in a timely manner, and that documentation is properly archived.
  8. Attends all meetings as designated by the Clinical Director.
  9. Demonstrates basic clinical competency as a nurse within the designated specialty area.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a Perioperative support services role with relevant experience and knowledge of OR equipment
  • 2 years previous OR leadership experience required

Education Requirements

  • Associate degree required, BSN preferred

License/Certification Requirements

  • Current NJ-RN License

Special Requirements

  • Communication – Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and coworkers
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency of the NDNQI database for nursing sensitive indicators and others as required
  • Strong level of confidentiality due to the sensitivity of materials and information handled
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational skills to handle multiple priorities while remaining professional and calm
  • Ability to work with many diverse people
  • Effective telephone skills
  • Written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the realization of performance objectives and previous experience in performance-based evaluations
