Job summary

United Surgical Partners International, through Memorial Hermann Surgery Center in Sugar Land, is seeking a full-time Certified Surgical Tech to join the OR team. The Surgical Scrub Technologist will assist in sterile prep, gowning, instrument counts, and maintaining a safe surgical environment.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and Scrub Technician program; certification is preferred. Two years of Scrub Tech experience in multiple specialties is desired, with familiarity of

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and completion of a Scrub Technician Program; certification preferable.
• Two years experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.

Responsibilities

• Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures.
• Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
• Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments pre- and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse.
• Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
• Keeps physician preference cards accurate/updated.
• Retains specimens for pathology, confirming source/name with surgeon.
• Transports surgical equipment and assists in sterile reprocessing of instrument sets.
• Interacts respectfully with patients and staff of diverse backgrounds.
• Follows Universal Precautions and safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment.
• Participates in infection control surveillance and emergency drills.
• Acts as a resource to health care team and attends required trainings.
• Communicates effectively with visitors, physicians, staff, and patients while protecting privacy.
