Job summary

Huntsville Hospital in Alabama is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in operative and invasive procedures, maintaining a sterile field and supporting the surgical team with instruments, supplies, and endoscopes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous medical experience; ORT course or previous experience as an ORT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
• Functions as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
• Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
• Performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator.
• Assisting with placement of sterile drapes; Providing instruments, medications, and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure.
• Maintaining an organized sterile field; Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed; and Preparing sterile dressings.
• Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
• Assists with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
• Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
• Monitors and helps maintain adequate stock, supplies, and equipment for operating rooms and procedures.
• Manages the patient’s specimens according to organizational policy and procedures.
• Performs interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
• Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
• Functions in the Endoscopic (GI) area by: washing, disinfecting, and assembling scopes for procedures; assessing functionality of scope; maintaining records of endoscope usage and repair logs; identifying patient; scheduling the patient and procedure into the computer system; assisting with handling of specimens; assisting physician with endoscopic and diagnostic procedures.
• Performs work according to rules, regulations, policies and guidelines; complies with standards in the Code of Conduct.
• Flexible to schedule; performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.
