Position Overview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Collaborates with OR and GI Endoscopy Unit to schedule cases, negotiating date and time, and avoiding resource conflicts. Coordinates special procedure needs with appropriate departments and external resources.
  2. Gathers complete patient and procedure information. Schedules procedures and tests at the hospital promptly.
  3. Prepares and distributes schedules according to established time frames. Works closely with physicians and administration to optimize scheduling and utilization.
  4. Obtains pre-certification and authorizations from insurance carriers to facilitate maximum utilization and minimal issues. Completes referrals and pre-certifications per insurance requirements.
  5. Assists co-workers during periods of increased patient activity.
  6. Works independently to ensure prompt patient service both on the phone and at the front desk. Oversees registration, checkout, and medical records to ensure efficient patient flow.
  7. Reviews routine issues with physicians, handles patient problems and complaints promptly, and refers difficult situations to management.
  8. Performs all medical receptionist duties, including answering calls, scheduling, filing, checking patients in/out, collecting payments, and managing related paperwork. Coordinates follow-up care communication.
  9. Oversees medical records filing, chart preparation, and purging for effective management.
  10. Plans daily schedules to maximize physician productivity. Coordinates other physician activities with departments.
  11. Coordinates hospital patient activity for doctors and billing.
  12. Works with providers to implement scheduling for maximum productivity. Coordinates resource scheduling, such as exam rooms and equipment.
  13. Collaborates with physicians and management to develop and implement practice growth plans.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of medical office or hospital experience

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequent: Sitting, wrist movements, fine motor activities, keyboard use, talking, hearing
  • Occasional: Standing, walking, climbing, carrying, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting/kneeling, crawling
  • Continuous: Lifting 15 lbs. floor to waist, 10 lbs. waist level and above
  • Sensory: Near and far vision, color discrimination, depth perception, hearing
