Intuitive, a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery, seeks a Reinforcement Learning Intern to contribute to the development and evaluation of RL algorithms for supervised autonomy. The intern will work with data from Intuitive surgical systems, primarily offline, with a possible real-time deployment goal.

Applicants must be enrolled in engineering/robotics/CS at the Doctorate level and able to work full-time for 10–12 weeks starting May or June.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited degree-seeking program and returning after the internship.
• Full-time availability for 40 hours/week during a 10–12 week period starting May or June.
• Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science or related field at the Doctorate level.
• Willingness to learn robotics and RL applications in surgery.
• Excellent written and verbal communication about experiments and results.

Responsabilités

• Collect telemetry data from the surgical robot or simulation during realistic exercises.
• Train RL algorithms on trajectory data and benchmark performance against metrics.
• Adapt RL algorithms to the surgical domain and identify improvement techniques.
• Recommend an experimental setup for the future and present findings to the team.
• Deploy chosen RL algorithm in simulation or on the robot for real-time validation.
