Job summary

Tennessee Donor Services is seeking a Surgical Recovery Coordinator (Surgical Technologist) in Knoxville to play a key role in the preservation, packaging, and distribution of donor organs. You will support transplant teams and coordinate complex recovery and transport operations in a fast-paced setting.

The role emphasizes on-call responsibilities, collaboration with surgeons, and ensuring adherence to policies and standards while advancing our mission to save lives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience in OPO or health care settings encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Assumes primary responsibility for renal preservation including pumping and transport.
• Performs on-call duties to support donor recovery activities.
• Coordinates surgical recovery, preservation, and packaging with transplant surgeons.
• Coordinates fly outs and fly backs for organ transport.
• Coordinates organ allocation and transportation for transplantation and research.

Tennessee Donor Services is seeking a Surgical Recovery Coordinator (surgical technologist) in Knoxville to save and enhance lives through the surgical removal, preservation, packaging, and distribution of organs.

Key responsibilities this position will perform include:

• Assumes primary responsibility for the renal preservation process including pumping and pump transport, in accordance with policies and standards.
• Performs extensive on-call responsibilities to assist with the activities related to the donor recovery.
• Coordinates and assists in the surgical recovery, preservation, and packaging of organs and specimens in conjunction with transplant surgeons and/or organ recovery coordinators in accordance with policies and standards.
• Coordinates and assists with fly outs and fly backs.
• Coordinates and assists with organ allocation, including kidney and liver placement, distribution, and transportation of organs for transplantation and/or research in accordance with policies and standards.

The ideal candidate will have:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• One to two years OPO or health care experience required, operating room experience preferred.
• Health-related certification and ISOP Level 1 by completion of the first year.
• Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications and basic data entry skills required.
