Tennessee Donor Services is seeking a dynamic Surgical Services Manager to lead the Surgical Recovery team and oversee organ preservation, allocation, and related regulatory compliance.

The role requires leadership in an OR environment, coordination of on-call duties, and collaboration with surgeons, coordinators, and hospital staff. Travel and on-call responsibilities are involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; health-related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 3–5 years of leadership experience managing staff.
• 5+ years operating room experience.
• OPO experience preferred.
• Certified Scrub Tech, EMT or RN/LVN preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with ability to pass MVR requirements.
• Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Provides day-to-day oversight and leadership of the Surgical Recovery staff.
• Oversees surgical recovery practices including perfusion and preservation.
• Coordinates call schedule for designated service area and participates in on-call duties.
• Leads surgical recovery, preservation, packaging, and delivery in coordination with surgeons and coordinators.
• Provides education and training for staff involved in preservation duties.
• Collaborates on in-services at donor hospitals related to surgical organ recovery.
• Supports quality processes and participates in committees to improve organ utilization.
• Manages organ allocation, distribution, and transportation in line with UNOS policies.
• Maintains OR supplies and donor equipment, ensuring readiness and compliance.
• Collects data for regulatory reporting and policy compliance.
• Performs other duties related to clinical, hospital services, and public education.

Tennessee Donor Services (TDS) is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team member to join us to save lives!! Our mission at TDS is to save lives through organ and tissue donation, and we want professionals on our team that will embrace this important work!! Tennessee Donor Services is seeking a Surgical Services Manager to join our team! This position will assist in the day-to-day management and coordination of organ recovery activities. The Surgical Services Manager will be responsible for the oversight of surgical related activities related to the allocation, distribution, surgical removal, and preservation of organs recovered for research and/or transplantation, coordinate the call schedule to ensure adequate staffing, provide oversight for all aspects of orientation and ongoing training of staff regarding preservation by collaborating with clinical training department for the development, implementation, and delivery of didactic training of recovery policies and procedures, and provide daily supervision and support to the Surgical Recovery Coordinators.

This role provides direct leadership and oversight for all surgical recovery in the Tennessee Donor Services service area. Provides direct oversight of employee performance and participates in the evaluation process as needed and ensures that recovery practices are aligned with all regulatory practices, and that policies, procedures, and local processes are adhered to. Some travel and on-call duties are required.

Key responsibilities this position will perform include:

• Provides day-to-day oversight and leadership of the Surgical Recovery staff.
• Provides oversight of all surgical recovery practices including perfusion and preservation of all organ systems and adherence to all surgical and regulatory standards.
• Coordinates the call schedule to ensure adequate coverage is provided for designated service area (DSA). Performs on-call responsibilities to assist with the activities related to the donor recovery. Increased donor activity, staffing shortages, etc. may require assuming on-call responsibilities or active participation in cases within or outside the primary area.
• Provides leadership oversight and assists in the surgical recovery, preservation, packaging, and delivery of organs and specimens in conjunction with transplant surgeons and/or organ recovery coordinators, research facilities or coroner’s offices in compliance with company policy, and UNOS requirements.
• Serves as a resource for the organization to provide education, in-services, and assisting with reviewing staff job competencies.
• Provides oversight for all aspects of orientation and ongoing training of staff responsible for preservation duties.
• Collaborates with Hospital Development to provide in-services at donor hospitals related to surgical organ recovery.
• Assists with quality processes such as investigations, root cause analysis, process improvement, and PDSAs related to preservation. Participates in internal and external committees to improve organ utilization.
• Coordinates and assists with organ allocation, including kidney and liver placement, distribution, and transportation of organs for transplantation and/or research in accordance with company and UNOS policies.
• Responsible for the materials management oversight of all related clinical supplies necessary for the organ recovery process. Maintains sterile supplies and donor equipment bags. Maintains the organ clinical supply room as appropriate. Handles and maintain supplies per OSHA standards and company policy. Maintains the constant state of readiness (clean and orderly).
• Responsible for data collection, analysis and reporting as needed for regulatory compliance in adherence to company policy, and UNOS standards regarding documentation.
• Assists with assigned projects and performs other duties related to the clinical, hospital services, and public education activities of the company.
• Assists with organ specific research projects.
• Responsible for regular review of relevant clinical policies and protocols to ensure current practice and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field required, health related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered
• 3-5 years leadership experience managing staff
• 5+ years operating room experience
• Organ procurement organization (OPO) experience preferred
• Certified Scrub Tech, EMT or RN/LVN preferred
• Valid driver’s license with ability to pass MVR underwriting requirements
• Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications to include Word and PowerPoint is required
