University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is the region’s largest and most comprehensive multi-specialty physician group practice. The CU Medicine team delivers business operations, revenue cycle, and administrative services to support over 4,000 physicians and advanced practice providers affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. These providers deliver trusted, compassionate healthcare services across primary and specialty care clinics and facilities operated by affiliate hospitals.

We are seeking a motivated Surgical Provider Education Specialist to join our Audit, Compliance & Education team.

This position is fully remote, and out-of-state candidates are encouraged to apply.

The Surgical Provider Education Specialist will deliver formal and informal coding and regulatory education to attending physicians, residents, advanced practice providers, and learners involved in billing for professional services. The education will focus on coding and documentation requirements aligned with Federal, State, and AMA guidelines. The individual will act as a liaison between CU Medicine departments, CU School of Medicine departments, and faculty.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Providing educational sessions for physicians, residents, advanced practice providers, and learners involved in professional services billing.
  2. Updating and revising educational materials under the guidance of the Education Manager.
  3. Conducting follow-up reviews post-training to assess additional educational needs and delivering further training as necessary.
  4. Communicating with administrators, physicians, and managers regarding documentation issues and training requests.
  5. Staying current with industry changes and trends.
  6. Supporting special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  2. At least 3 years of experience in education, preferably provider or coder education.
  3. Certification as CPC or CCS is required.
  4. CPMA certification is a plus, to be obtained within 1 year of hire.
  5. Surgical experience is mandatory.
  6. Cardiology experience is highly preferred.
  7. Excellent public speaking skills and the ability to engage large audiences.
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
