Job summary

UMMC in Jackson, MO, seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist for Surgical Pathology to perform a full range of laboratory tests and analyses supporting diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

The role requires post-hire licensure/certification within 1 year and strong analytical skills, with experience across hematology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry, and urinalysis. The position is full-time, daytime shifts at the Main Campus Jackson facility.

Qualifications

• Post-hire certification/registration within 1 year is required.
• Experience with clinical laboratory testing across hematology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry, and urinalysis is desired.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety and quality control practices.

Responsibilities

• Conducts clinical laboratory tests and analysis in hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis.
• Analyzes samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction.
• Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.
• Cultivates, isolates, identifies, and tests microbial organisms; prepares slides for microscopic study and diagnosis.
• Prepares specimens/media for cell culture using aseptic techniques; analyzes blood samples for cell counts and compatibility for transfusion.
• Operates, calibrates, maintains laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers and analyzers; follows safety practices.
