Job summary

Northwell Health in New York seeks a Pathologists’ Assistant to assist pathologists with surgical pathology specimens, perform gross dissections, accessioning and submission for histology. The role supports education of residents and fellows and ensures proper handling and documentation of specimens.

The position requires an NYS Pathologists’ Assistant license, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and prefers ASCP certification.

Qualifications

NYS Pathologists’ Assistant license is required.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program or related field.
ASCP certification as Pathologists’ Assistant preferred.
Experience in surgical pathology, autopsy dissection and histology procedures is preferred.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Assist pathologists with specimens from small biopsies and tissue resections, and in gross description.
Prepare specimens with proper accessioning, clinical info, and submission for histology.
Dissect and process frozen sections for evaluation by attending pathologist.
Serve as liaison between laboratory staff and department heads to maintain quality service.
Support training of residents and fellows in gross dissection, reporting, and sampling.
