Description

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry and Golisano Children’s Hospital, in Rochester, NY, seeks a Surgical Pathologist (Surgical Pathology or Breast/GYN).

The Surgical Pathologist will provide diagnostic expertise and clinical support in the evaluation of surgical specimens, perform microscopic examination and diagnosis of surgical pathology specimens, provide intraoperative consultations (frozen sections) as needed, collaborate with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to guide patient management, participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives within the department, engage in teaching activities for medical students, residents and fellows, and maintain compliance with institutional policies, state and federal regulations. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate diagnoses and optimal patient care. The pathologist will contribute to academic activities, including teaching and research, in alignment with the mission of the University of Rochester Medical Center.

The Anatomic Pathology Division provides a wide range of services, accessioning over 100,000 cases per year and approximately 220 autopsies. More than 35 anatomic pathologists participate in a fully subspecialized sign-out model.

Teaching opportunities are ample: There are 20 residents in our ACGME-accredited residency and 10 subspecialties fellows. Infrastructure exists to create the only ACGME pediatric pathology fellowship in New York state. The department houses URMC’s largest PhD training program.

The University of Rochester offers a robust benefits package, including generous 403b contributions, deferred compensation (457(b)) plan and a tuition benefit for employees and their children. It also is responsive to the needs of dual-career couples. In alignment with UR Medical Faculty Group, the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine offers additional incentive compensation in excess of base salary.

Qualifications

The referenced pay range ($250,000-300,000) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
