Job summary

Stamford Health is seeking an Operating Room Assistant (ORA) for a Monday–Friday day shift (7:00am–3:00pm) at our Stamford, CT campus. The ORA will provide support to the nursing staff within Surgical Services and assist with multiple operational tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include preserving patient confidentiality, maintaining instruments and supplies, ensuring correct patient charts, and assisting with room turnover and setup.

Qualifications

• Medical Terminology knowledge required.
• Computer literacy and familiarity with medical equipment preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with surgical staff and other healthcare workers.

Responsibilities

• Respect patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Assist surgical team by maintaining knowledge of instrumentation and supplies.
• Verify patient identification and ensure the correct patient chart is present.
• Adhere to safety PPE requirements to protect against exposure to blood and hazardous materials.
• Assist with transporting and positioning patients.
• Support scrub and circulating nurses in implementing care plans during procedures.
• Maintain room turnover by cleaning and disinfecting operating rooms between surgeries.
• Keep equipment rooms clean and organized and report any problems to biomedical services.
• Help with room setup and stock supplies in operating rooms.
• Participate in case cart preparation and act as a resource to other staff.
• Demonstrate ability to work with minimal supervision and support orientation of new staff.
