Job summary

MedStar Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Surgical Oncology team. This is a full-time ambulatory position focused on pre-operative and post-operative management of complex oncologic procedures, collaborating with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams.

The APP will participate in pre- and post-operative assessments, inpatient consultations, tumor board rounds, and care coordination across GI, HPB, breast, and soft tissue malignancies, with an emphasis on

Qualifications

• Completion and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
• CPR certification.
• Eligible for Maryland and DC licenses.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative assessments, post-operative follow-ups, patient education, and routine post-discharge care in the outpatient setting
• Assist in inpatient consultations and support timely, coordinated discharges
• Participate in daily patient review rounds and contribute to weekly multidisciplinary tumor board and care huddles
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR
• Serve as a liaison between surgeons, referring physicians, inpatient teams, and outpatient specialty services
• Help optimize care pathways for patients undergoing complex surgeries involving hepatobiliary, colorectal, breast, and soft tissue malignancies

Education
