Job description

Boston, Massachusetts

The Division of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP), in partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), seek an experienced surgical oncologist to lead our Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program. The successful applicant will be a fellowship-trained, board certified/eligible academic surgical oncologist with outstanding technical skills in the management of complex gastrointestinal malignancies. In particular, demonstrated experience in cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC) is critical. A strong commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration is essential. The role offers access to the substantial clinical and research resources of BIDMC and the ability to partner with DFCI’s extensive gastrointestinal cancer research and clinical trials programs and provides the opportunity for programmatic and administrative leadership.

Experienced candidates are preferred; exceptionally promising new fellowship graduates may be considered. Responsibilities include programmatic leadership, direct patient care, teaching of surgery residents and medical students, and clinical or outcomes research as appropriate. Appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School will be commensurate with experience, training and achievements in addition to teaching activities.

As a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, BIDMC and the Department of Surgery provide a clinically advanced and supportive academic environment for residents, fellows, and faculty. We’re also proud and excited to be an integral part of the landmark collaboration among Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) to establish New England’s only freestanding 300 bed adult inpatient cancer hospital. The collaboration will provide unparalleled opportunities for surgery and other physician specialties to be part of DFCI's internationally recognized cancer team. This recruitment is a key part of this collaboration which is expected to drive substantial increases in oncology referral volume across all disease sites, including gastrointestinal malignancies.
