Job summary

Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio - SMASA is seeking a motivated Certified Medical Biller and Coder (Surgical) to join our orthopedic sports medicine team. You will handle medical coding (CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10-CM) and billing workflows, ensuring compliance and accurate revenue cycle management.

You will collaborate with providers and staff, conduct chart audits, and deliver education on coding and billing policies while maintaining HIPAA compliance across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year experience as medical biller/coder in surgical/orthopedics; CPC preferred.
• Experience with EMR and electronic scheduling systems.
• CPC certification preferred and ortho experience are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Extracts and clarifies information from patient records for coding.
• Assigns CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM codes.
• Performs chart audits and provides coding education to the clinical team.
• Enter accurate data in the practice management system and verify insurance and claims.
• Investigate claim denials and correct claims.
• Provide timely patient billing support and respond to questions.
