Job summary

Virginia Veterinary Specialty & Emergency in Charlottesville, VA seeks a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to support our Surgery department. You will work in a collaborative specialty environment with anesthesia and treatment focus, and interact with board-certified specialists.

The role requires an AAS in Veterinary Technology and Virginia LVT license, with a minimum of 1 year of specialty experience. You must be able to lift animals and remain calm during emergencies.

Qualifications

• AAS in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program.
• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in Virginia.
• Minimum 1 year of specialty veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift animals and work in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing procedures including restraint, postoperative care, catheterization, wound management and bandaging.
• Assist veterinarians with medical and surgical procedures, including anesthesia preparation, monitoring and recovery care.
• Perform emergency and critical care nursing tasks such as CPR, fluid resuscitation, oxygen therapy, and blood transfusions.
• Conduct laboratory procedures including microbiology, cytology, hematology, serology and urinalysis.
• Manage diagnostic tools for blood pressure, ECG, oximetry, and imaging protocols.
• Collect and prepare specimens for lab evaluation and maintain lab equipment.
• Maintain accurate medical records in Instinct and practice management software.
• Educate clients about their pet’s care, follow-ups and medications.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe facility and surgical materials.
