Job summary

St. Francis–Emory Healthcare, a 376-bed community hospital in Columbus, GA, seeks a Surgical Technologist – First Assist to provide advanced intraoperative support under the surgeon.

You will help with exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and other technical tasks while maintaining patient safety and sterile technique. The role requires completion of an accredited surgical technology program and may require a Surgical First Assist certification depending on facility/state.

Qualifications

• Postsecondary graduate of an accredited surgical technology program is required.
• Completion of an accredited Surgical First Assist program may be required by facility/state.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile field, instruments, and supplies for procedures.
• Act as first assistant to surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and tissue handling.
• Assist with tissue retraction, exposure, and visualization; manage intraoperative needs.
• Maintain sterile technique and infection control; participate in counts for instruments and sponges.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing staff for optimal patient outcomes.
• Respond to intraoperative complications and emergencies; ensure proper specimen handling.
