Job summary

Ascension is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant to join the OR team at Ascension St. Vincent's Clay County Hospital in Middleburg, FL.

You will expertly position and stabilize patients to optimize surgical site exposure while ensuring comfort and safety during day shifts and PRN coverage. You will assist with retraction, tissue manipulation, suctioning and irrigation to provide clear visibility of the surgical area, manage bleeding with advanced techniques, help close incisions, apply

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification required within 1 month of hire.
• NBSTSA Surgical Assistant credential required within 12 months of hire.
• ABSA Surgical Assistant credential required within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Position and stabilize patients to optimize surgical site exposure while ensuring comfort and safety.
• Provide visibility of the surgical site using retraction, tissue manipulation, suction, and irrigation.
• Apply techniques to achieve temporary and permanent bleeding control during procedures.
• Assist with closing body planes, applying wound dressings, and securing drainage systems.
• Collaborate with the team to set up the operating room per surgeon preferences and assist with post-case cleanup.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
  • Surgical Assistant credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Surgical Assistant credentialed from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
