Corewell Health Butterworth OR is seeking a Surgical Techhnologist First Assistant (STFA) to support advanced intraoperative activities in a busy level 1 trauma center. The role requires strong anatomy knowledge, OR experience, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

You will work with DaVinci, Rosa, and Stealth robotic systems, under supervision, progressing toward independence as you complete STFA competencies. Day shift, full-time, with on-call weekends.

Qualifikationen

• Require Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or equivalent.
• STFA certification course completed with core curriculum for ST First Assistant.
• CSFA certification required; NBSTSA or equivalent upon hire.
• 3 years of relevant experience in a surgical services nursing department required.
• AHA/ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire required.
• CST certification required; NBSTSA/ABSA options upon hire.

About This Unit

The Corewell Health Butterworth OR department is a level 1 trauma center. The department consists of twenty-one (21) operating rooms that operate 24/7 including supporting other surgical services departments related to IMRI and pediatric areas. The surgical team covers multiple specialties with a focus on trauma, orthopedic trauma, acute care surgery and neurological trauma. Our interdisciplinary team of anesthesia providers, physicians, nurses, surgical technicians, and support technicians offer a high level of expertise and patient care. We also support a high level of technology including the DaVinci, Rosa, and Stealth robotic equipment. The environment offers a strong team atmosphere with comprehensive technology for safe and efficient patient care.

Scope of work

The Surgical Techhnologist First Assistant (STFA) possessing advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and utilizing extensive patient assessment skills, collaborates with all health team members to ensure the most optimal patient outcome. Performs all activities at and expanded level of surgical technician practice executed with the contest of the nursing process. Intraoperatively, the STFA actively assists the surgeon, performing observable, technical behaviors (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective). Intra-operatively, actively and independently (the intern is under supervision of a preceptor), assists the surgeon, performing observable, technical behaviors, included but not limited to patient positioning, skin preparation, tissue handling, wound exposure, hemostatis, manipulating surgical instruments and wound closure. The intern is under the supervision of a surgeon/preceptor and will work towards independence by completing all STFA competencies.

Qualifications

• Required Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or equivalent (Successful Completion of an Accredited School of Surgical Technology. Not all schools involve an Associate's degree.)
• Successfully complete a certification STFA course, which addresses both didactic knowledge and technical skills. The STFA course curriculum is based on recognized core curriculum for the ST First Assistant in which a certificate is awarded. Required
• CRT-Surgical First Assistant, Certified (CSFA) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Upon Hire required
• 3 years of relevant experience within a surgical services nursing department Required
• AHA OR ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 Days of hire Required
• CRT-Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) - AST Association of Surgical Technologist Upon Hire required
