Corewell Health is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) at Lakeland Hospital St Joseph in Michigan. You will collaborate with surgeons, assist in the OR, and support a multi-disciplinary team across General Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiothoracic, and other specialties.

The unit operates day shifts with a 36-hour week, supporting robotic-assisted procedures with DaVinci systems. The role emphasizes advanced anatomy knowledge, patient assessment, and intra-operative assistance within

Qualifications

• Associates in Nursing and RN licensure required.
• Bachelors in Nursing within 5 years preferred.
• Active MI RN licensure and CNOR certification desired.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon intra-operatively as RNFA with advanced perioperative skills.
• Collaborate with OR team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Apply nursing process within observational, cognitive and psychomotor tasks.

About The Unit

This unit is comprised of 12 surgical suites and one procedure room. The unit’s primary specialties are General surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, ENT, Urology, Podiatry, GYN, Plastics and Hand. The unit houses two DaVinci robots for our robotically trained teams in General surgery, Cardiothoracic, Urology, and GYN.

We provide both inpatient and outpatientmedical servicesthroughout Southwest Michigan.

Scope of Work

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA), possessing advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and utilizing extensive patient assessment skills, collaborates with all health team members to ensure the most optimal patient outcome. Performs all activities at an expanded level of perioperative nursing practice executed within the context of the nursing process. Intra-operatively, the RNFA actively assists the surgeon, performing observable, technical behaviors (cognitive, psycho motor, and affective) based on an extensive body of scientific knowledge, as specified in the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Core Curriculum for the RNFA.

Qualifications

• Associates in Nursing
• Bachelors in Nursing within 5 years
• MI Registered Nurse (RN)
• Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program
• Vocational/Technical Actively enrolled or have completed an accredited first assistant program, preferably a program compliant with AORN recommendations for RNFA programs.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days
• Nurse in OR (CNOR) - CCI or Nurse in OR (CNOR) - AORN within 1 year

Preferred

• RN First Assist, Certified (CRNFA) - AORN Association of perioOperative Registered Nurses required for MHC; otherwise preferred 2 Yrs preferred Or
• RN First Assist, Certified (CRNFA) - NASC National Assistant at Surgery Certification required for MHC; otherwise preferred 2 Yrs preferred Or
• Surgical Assistant, Certified (CSA) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting required for MHC; otherwise preferred 2 Yrs preferred
