Job summary

The Surgical First Assistant role at GOEBEL FIXTURE COMPANY supports surgeons in the operating room, helping position patients, arranging equipment, and assisting with exposure and hemostasis to keep cases moving smoothly.

This PRN position requires BLS CPR certification, at least 2 years of orthopedic experience, and a post-high school program accredited by CAAHEP, with ongoing credentialing at affiliated area hospitals.

Qualifications

• BLS CPR certification required.
• At least 2 years Orthopedic experience preferred.
• A post-high school program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Responsibilities

• Assist surgical team in patient positioning and equipment prep.
• Identify equipment needs and help with exposure during operation.
• Control bleeding and assist with incision closure.
• Lead OR staff in room preparation and post-op fittings such as casting or splinting.
• Maintain active hospital privileges throughout employment.

Description

The Surgical First Assist works closely with surgeons in the operating room to facilitate their daily case schedule. They anticipate the needs of the surgical team during the operation, assisting the surgeon with tasks such as positioning the patient, identifying equipment needs, helping with exposure, stopping bleeding, closing the incision, leading the operating room staff in preparation, post-operative fitting such as casting and splinting, among other technical tasks.

• This position is PRN (4-5 shifts per month)

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• BLS CPR certification required.
• At least 2 years Orthopedic experience preferred.
• A post-high school program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Credentialing Requirements:

• Requires initial and ongoing credentialing at affiliated area hospitals. Maintaining active hospital privileges is required throughout employment.
