Job summary

Wright Dental in Cold Spring, KY, is seeking an Oral Surgery Assistant to support the oral maxillofacial surgeons in a busy clinic. You will assist with routine and advanced procedures, prepare patients, and maintain records and equipment.

The role requires an OMFS assistant certification and radiography certification, with at least six months of dental assisting experience preferred. Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential for high-quality patient care and safety.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform administrative tasks like appointment scheduling, charting, and filing.
• Prepare patient charts, treatment plans, and update dental records.
• Operate X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and develop radiographs.
• Sterilize instruments and equipment per infection control and biohazard protocols.
• Assist the surgeon with chairside procedures, setup, anesthesia, and cleanup.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
• Inform patients about oral health, treatment plans and postoperative outcomes.
• Monitor stock of surgical supplies and replenish as needed.
• Maintain instruments and equipment, ensuring proper care.

Job description

Job Location: Wright Dental - Kentucky - Cold Spring, KY 41076. Position Type: Full Time. Job Category: Health Care.

The Oral Surgery Assistant will provide assistance to oral maxillofacial surgeons within the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. Duties will include assisting in routine and advanced oral surgery procedures as directed by the oral surgeon. Additional duties include and are not limited to, patient preparation and positioning; clinical area preparation; oral surgery assisting, the use, maintenance, distribution of surgical equipment, instruments and supplies, and the collection and maintenance of patient data and records.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performing administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, charting, and filing.
• Preparing patient charts, recording treatment plans, and updating dental records.
• Operating X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and developing radiographs for diagnostic purposes.
• Preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments, materials, and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
• Assisting the surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration, and cleanup.
• Preparing patients for surgery and monitoring vital signs during procedures.
• Providing patients with information on oral health care, treatment plans, and postoperative outcomes.
• Monitoring our stock of surgical supplies and medication and replenishing these, as needed.
• Ensuring that instruments and equipment are effectively maintained.
• Providing excellent patient care at all times.

REQUIREMENTS

• Oral and maxillofacial surgery assistant certification.
• Radiography certification.
• At least six months of dental assisting experience is preferred.
• Sound knowledge of how to use surgical equipment, instruments and materials.
• A good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.
• An excellent understanding of dental records, charts, and documentation.
• Great organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
