Overview

The Surgical Coordinator manages all aspects of tests, procedures, and surgeries within a busy practice comprising over 50 staff members, including 2 other surgical coordinators and 14 surgeons across multiple specialties.

Responsibilities
  • Authorize, coordinate, and book surgeries, with experience in authorizations and surgical scheduling preferred.
  • Coordinate all aspects of tests, procedures, and surgeries efficiently under supervision.
  • Schedule procedures promptly, verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and obtain precertification.
  • Arrange for necessary surgical assistance and cross-department scheduling.
  • Ensure pre-op procedures are followed, including documentation, scheduling, and medical clearance.
  • Maintain hospital block time guidelines and coordinate postoperative care.
  • Handle billing information, work with coding, and reconcile charges.
  • Track procedures, testing, and pathology results.
  • Provide excellent customer service, assist patients courteously, and communicate effectively.
  • Manage time efficiently, participate in meetings, and adhere to organizational standards.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED plus two years of related experience.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt.

Preferred:

  • Two years of experience in a medical office.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, HIPAA, and surgical coding (CPT, ICD-10).
  • CPR certification is a plus.
