Job summary

Mid Florida Eye in The Villages/Stonecrest, Florida seeks a Surgical Coordinator to join our multi-specialty ophthalmology practice. You will schedule, pre-certify, verify registrations, and document procedures for OR/ASC and external centers.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of surgical coordinator experience in ophthalmology, with strong patient-focused service and financial counseling skills. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• At least one year of surgical coordinator experience in ophthalmology preferred.
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and telephone skills.
• Proficient in medical insurance verification and financial counseling.

Responsibilities

• Process surgical plan of care from physician.
• Verify on-line registrations with patients by phone or in person.
• Discuss payments and set up payment schedules.
• Pre-certify procedures by contacting insurance and referrals.
• Schedule procedures and coordinate with surgeon and staff.
• Send confirmation letters and information about the surgical experience.
• Coordinate admissions with other departments and follow up.
• Gain experience in patient registration and scheduling.

Our preferred candidates will have at least one year of surgical coordinator experience, preferably in an optometry/ophthalmology practice.

Surgical Coordinator schedules, pre-certifies, verifies, and documents procedure for Operating Room and Ambulatory Surgery Center as well as outside hospitals and surgery centers for patients. Work with other departments to schedule patients in a timely manner assuring that registrations and insurance information are correct.

Responsibilities

• Process patient Surgical Plan of Care from Physician.
• Confirm and correct computer aided, on-line registration with patient by telephone or in person in courteous and consumer-orientated manner; collect personal and insurance information.
• Discuss co-payment, deposits, or payment in full requirements with patients prior to scheduled appointment; counsel patient on establishing payment schedule.
• Contact and verify insurance company in a timely manner to pre-certify procedure, document pre-certification notes in HBOC registration; contact PCPs for referrals and or H&Ps as needed.
• Schedule procedure, work with both the surgeon’s and patient's schedules, as well as possibly other physician’s schedules for joint procedures
• Schedule patients for an appointment with physician, nurse or technical personnel using the on-line scheduling system; send a confirmation letter of procedure as well as other information relating to the surgical experience.
• Coordinate admission and/or procedure with other departments per patient needs; follow-up with each patient until procedure is scheduled.
• Progressive experience performing patient registration and scheduling, medical insurance verification, preferably in a physician’s office as a receptionist or in a customer service environment. (Required)

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal, interpersonal, consumer relations and telephone skills required.
• Proficient knowledge in medical insurance verification procedures, insurance screening and financial counseling, billing, and health-care business operations, as well as working knowledge of CPT4/ICD9 coding preferred.
• Must be able to multi-task and have knowledge of medical terminology.
• One year of experience in ophthalmology preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
