Job summary

Southeastern-Oral-Surgery in Dothan, AL is seeking a capable Surgical Assistant to join our busy practice. You will support the oral surgeon during procedures, prepare treatment rooms, and maintain patient comfort and safety.

Responsibilities include taking dental X-rays, reviewing health histories, infection control, post-operative instructions, and documenting notes, while upholding confidentiality and professional standards.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in an inpatient or outpatient surgical environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be detail-oriented, punctual, and patient-care-focused.

Responsibilities

• Assist the oral surgeon during a variety of surgical procedures
• Prepare treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols
• Take dental x-rays of excellent, diagnostic quality
• Review patient Health History to ensure it is recorded accurately and completely
• Serve as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol, and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
• Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after surgical treatment
• Provide patients with post-operative instructions for oral care following surgery or other oral treatment procedures, such as the placement of dental implants or extraction of third molars
• Record doctor notes and vital sign information during a surgical procedure or office consultation
• Perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer
• Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in an inpatient or outpatient surgical environment
• Experience in a hospital environment is highly preferred but oral surgery experience is not required
