Job Title: Surgical Assistant II

Location: Capital Oral & Facial Surgery Center, Washington, D.C.

Type: Full-time

Summary

We are seeking a diligent oral surgery assistant to support our oral surgeon before, during, and after each procedure. The ideal candidate should be highly organized, attentive to patients' needs, and possess a good understanding of oral surgery procedures and hand-eye coordination.

Surgical Responsibilities
  • Proper instrument cleaning following infection control protocols.
  • Operation of autoclave and surgical tray setup.
  • Instrument identification and room setup/breakdown for IV anesthesia and surgery.
  • Patient seating and pre-op setup, chart review, nitrous oxide setup, and patient positioning.
  • Support airway management for sedated patients and demonstrate calming techniques.
  • Circulate and retrieve instruments, monitor patients post-anesthesia, and assess patient needs.
  • Understand emergency procedures and operate emergency equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on instruments and equipment regularly.
  • Provide excellent patient care.
Non-Surgical Responsibilities
  • Familiarity with forms, handouts, and OSHA requirements.
  • Greet patients and perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, filing, and charting.
  • Conduct patient consultations, provide discharge instructions, and follow-up calls.
  • Take X-Rays/scans and enter EMR notes.
  • Manage office opening/closing tasks and support coworkers as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Surgical Assistant in D.C.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Dental X-ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and patient care skills.
Schedule
  • 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (Tuesday admin day).

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to stand up to 80% of the time.
  • Physical ability to drive, fly, sit, and stand for extended periods.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
