Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant Program.
• Virginia Surgical Assistant License REQUIRED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification REQUIRED.
• 3 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon with selecting equipment and setting up tables and positioning equipment.
• Provide retraction for visualization of the surgical site.
• Cauterize bleeding vessels and perform suturing/closure of incisions.
• Instill medications and apply surgical dressings, splints, and casts.
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to support patient care.
• Maintain effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.

Overview:

Sentara is hiring a Surgical Assistant at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, in Virginia Beach Virginia.

Shift: Full Time, First Shift

The Surgical Assistant II anticipates the needs of the surgical team, the Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, set up of various tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization of surgical site, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing and closure of incision, instillation of medications, application of surgical dressings, splints, and casts. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant uses effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.

Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program required.

Certification/Licensure
