Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an experienced Surgical Assistant to join our Operating Room team. The role supports surgeons as a first or second assistant, with emphasis on asepsis, instrument handling, and intraoperative coordination.

Flex shifts and scheduling options are available to fit lifestyle and career goals. We offer a $5,000 sign-on for full- and part-time roles and relocation assistance for moves of 50+ miles.

Qualifications

• Education path includes Associate’s Degree or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology.
• Required BLS within 30 days (AHA) and CSA/NCCSA or equivalent licensure.
• Operating room experience: 2+ years as scrub person or first/second assistant.

Responsibilities

• Maintains sterile environment using aseptic technique.
• Organizes supplies and equipment for efficient OR operations.
• Performs intraoperative assisting duties as needed by the surgeon.
• Scrubs and assists with room turnover and instrument handling.
• Supports patient care planning with the RN and surgical team.
• Operates autoclave sterilization units and manages instruments.
• Mentors medical students and residents during scrub duties.
