Job summary

Saint Joseph Health System in Mishawaka, IN is seeking a qualified Surgical Assistant / Physician Assistant to join our day shift team. You will support the clinic and operating room, perform initial patient assessments, schedule diagnostics, and document care while upholding our mission and patient-centered care standards.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with additional specific training.
• Two years post-secondary education in an accredited Physician Assistant program or comparable training that results in successful certification by an accredited organization in surgical assisting.
• BLS certification required upon hire or within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values in all interactions.
• Knows and adheres to laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.
• Assists with surgical procedures in operating room and in clinic.
• Conducts initial assessment of patients during office visits.
• Schedules diagnostic test procedures as directed.
• Documents patient care provided.
• Provides age-appropriate care according to patient needs.
• Collaborates with clinic medical home team and supports a team-based approach.
• Adheres to safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties consistent with the purpose of the job.

Education

Two years post-secondary education in an accredited Physician Assistant program or comparable training resulting in certification in surgical assisting

What You Will Do

• Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
• Acts as a collaborating member of the clinic medical home team and is highly committed to a team construct.
• Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

Education

High school graduate with additional specific training.

Two years post-secondary education in an accredited Physician Assistant program or comparable training that results in successful certification by an accredited organization in surgical assisting.

Licensure

Certification in Surgical Assisting and/or can provide evidence of employment in the field prior to July 1, 2009.

BLS certification required upon hire or able to obtain within 60 days.

Experience

Experience in independently harvesting leg veins preferred
