Job summary

SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to assist in cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) procedures. The role involves instrument handling, exposure of the operative field, and teamwork to ensure patient safety.

The candidate should have two years of surgical technologist experience with CVOR exposure, possess BLS, and hold CFA and CSFA credentials. Work is at the Saint Louis University Hospital with day shifts and a 40-hour week.

Qualifications

• Two years' experience as surgical technologist with six months in CVOR.
• BLS HealthCare Provider certification required.
• Certified First Assistant (CFA) and CSFA certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Uses surgical instruments as directed by the surgeon and exposes operative site.
• Sutures tissues with appropriate materials and techniques.
• Anticipates and plans care based on CVOR procedures and needs.
• Prepares equipment, supplies and resources based on a plan of care and reevaluates as needed.
• Implements physician-prescribed treatments, nursing assessments, and diagnostic data within the care plan.
• Evaluates care provided by team members and provides feedback.
• Maintains alertness and safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Assists surgeons skillfully during cardiovascular operating room CVOR procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

• Uses surgical instruments consistent with their design and purpose as directed by the surgeon. Provides exposure of operative site through use of retractors and other instruments and through suctioning and sponging.
• Sutures varieties of tissue with appropriate materials and techniques. Handles all variety of tissue appropriately to reduce potential for injury or compromised blood supply.
• Anticipates and plans individualized care based on advanced knowledge of the cardiovascular operating room CVOR surgical procedure and anticipates unexpected patient and surgeon needs.
• Prepares equipment, supplies and resources based on an individualized plan of care. Re-evaluates and modifies resource needs.
• Implements a plan of care that incorporates physician prescribed treatments, nursing assessments, and diagnostic data in a manner that is prioritized and integrated with the plan of care.
• Evaluates care given by team members and gives feedback. Maintains accountability for standard of care provided and acts as a resource to other team members.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Constant use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.
• Constant use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
• Constant lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
• Constant standing and walking.
• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
