Job summary

MarinHealth Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Assistant to perform patient care and support tasks under RN or physician supervision in a fast-paced surgical/recovery environment. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and preferred CNA/EMT training with BLS at hire.

Ideal candidates bring at least one year of patient care experience, strong data entry and communication skills, and the ability to work calmly under pressure while coordinating with physicians, nurses and clinical

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of a Nurse Assistant, EMT or Orthopedic Technician program preferred.
  • Minimum one year full-time patient care experience required.
  • BLS certification required at hire; CNA or EMT certification required at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Lifts, moves or assists patients into and out of bed and transfers to devices or chairs.
  • Pushes and pulls wheelchairs and gurneys with patients.
  • Maintains cleanliness and stock of wheelchairs, gurneys and related equipment.
  • Weighs patients and records data in chart per policy.
  • May take vital signs (BP/HR/RR/temperature).
  • Documents all patient care and tasks per department policy.
  • Assists nursing with bed making, baths, feeding and care activities.
  • Stock rooms and organize supplies; maintain orderly patient areas.
  • Assist with pre-operative prep and orthopedic procedures as directed.
  • May apply traction and monitor patients in traction; document changes.
  • May remove bedpans and urinals; assist with catheter care as needed.
  • May provide post-mortem care and transport to morgue as required.
