Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in Topeka, KS is seeking a day shift, full-time Surgical Assistant to join our operating room team.

You will perform a wide range of housekeeping duties between procedures, assist with setting up rooms and equipment, and support patient transport and specimen handling to ensure smooth surgical flow. Required is a high school diploma and BLS certification within 14 days of hire, with OR experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation with a high school diploma.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of housekeeping duties to include but not limited to cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing operating rooms between surgical procedures, replenishing inventory when needed, and helps to keep other areas sanitized as needed.
• Assists with setting up rooms with appropriate equipment
• Efficiently responds to requests and needs with customer focus.
• Enter departmental work-order/notify bio-med of broken equipment.
• Transport patients as needed, transports lab specimens, and transports blood products as needed.
• Answers telephone calls in a courteous and prompt manner and clearly/respectfully communicates relevant information to all customers.
• ‘On-call’ status may be required
