Job summary

UKHS St. Francis Campus in Topeka, KS is seeking a day shift, full-time Surgical Assistant to join our operating room team. The role focuses on maintaining sterile environments and supporting patient care throughout the surgical process.

You will perform housekeeping duties between procedures, set up rooms with equipment, transport patients and specimens, and respond to requests with a customer-focused mindset. On-call status may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• BLS certification to be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer, prior to direct patient care.
• Operating Room experience as an OR Assistant is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs housekeeping duties including cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing operating rooms between procedures, replenishing inventory, and maintaining sanitation in related areas.
• Sets up rooms with appropriate equipment.
• Responds to requests with a customer-focused approach.
• Enter departmental work-orders and notify bio-med of broken equipment.
• Transports patients, lab specimens, and blood products as needed.
• Answers calls courteously and communicates relevant information to customers.
• On-call status may be required.

Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of housekeeping duties to include but not limited to cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing operating rooms between surgical procedures, replenishing inventory when needed, and helps to keep other areas sanitized as needed.
• Assists with setting up rooms with appropriate equipment
• Efficiently responds to requests and needs with customer focus.
• Enter departmental work-order/notify bio-medof broken equipment.
• Transport patients as needed, transports lab specimens, and transports blood products as needed.
• Answers telephone calls in a courteous and prompt manner and clearly/respectfully communicates relevant information to all customers.
• 'On-call' status may be required

Job Requirements:

• Graduation with a high school diploma.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Opearating Room experience serving as an OR Assistant.
