Job summary

University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in Topeka, KS is seeking a day shift, part-time Outpatient Surgical Tech to join our operating team.

You will assist with instrument prep, pass supplies to the surgeon, support sterile technique, and help with room turnover while ensuring patient safety and comfort in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a high school diploma (or GED), CST certification or graduation from an accredited program, and BLS within 14 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: high school diploma or GED.
• Surgical Tech certification (CST) or graduation from an accredited program.
• Experience in operating room settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and anticipates instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for usage during the procedure.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.
• Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions during the procedure.
• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
• Assists with room turnover and terminal cleaning of the room.
• Performs instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the surgical technologist in the first scrub role.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and anticipates instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for usage during the procedure.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.
• Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents,and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure.
• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
• Assists members of the team withroom turnover andterminal cleaningof room.
• Performs instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the surgical technologist in the first scrub role prior to the operation and before the incision is closed. Prepares and anticipates instrumentation, equipment,and supplies for usage during the procedure.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet at least one of the following:
  • Graduate from an accredited program or equivalent.
  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST).
  • 1+ years' of prior operating room experience.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
