Job summary

TriHealth Surgical Services seeks an experienced Surgical Assistant to join the perioperative team in the Cincinnati area. You will support pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care under the supervision of an attending surgeon, ensuring patient safety and efficient case turnover.

The ideal candidate graduates from an approved program, holds BLS, and will obtain professional certification within 12 months of employment, with strong knowledge of anatomy and surgical procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS).
  • Professional certification must be obtained within 12 months from date of employment.
  • Surgical procedures knowledge and anatomy (A&P).
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in performing surgical procedures under the direct supervision of the surgeon including positioning, prepping and draping patients.
  • Demonstrates teamwork in set-up, clean-up and room turnover; arrives promptly in the OR.
  • Exhibits clinical and technical competency; follows policies and procedures; responds to emergencies.
  • Knows outpatient procedures and adapts to changes in assignments; supports timely case turnover.
  • Provides first or second assistance in surgery including tissue handling, exposure, instruments, hemostasis and suturing.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program

Job Overview:

The surgical assistant works under the direction of an attending surgeon and performs duties in relation to pre-operative, operative and post-operative procedures as assigned by that attending surgeon.

Provides first or second assistance in surgery including handling tissue, providing exposure, using instruments, providing homeostasis and suturing.
