Job summary

University of California - Irvine Health is seeking an experienced Registration/Authorization Clerk to obtain necessary authorizations, verify funding sources, and schedule patients for surgery. The role requires strong medical terminology knowledge and excellent English communication.

Candidates should have experience with hospital registration systems, MS Office, and knowledge of ICD9/CPT codes. Epic experience is a plus, and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and evenings is required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling system.
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
• Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Must be able to travel to off site physician practices.
• Minimum one (1) year recent experience registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing.
• General knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated experience using MS Office.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
• Ability to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate determinations regarding coverage.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.

Responsibilities

• Obtain authorizations for services and verify patient funding sources.
• Schedule patients for surgery and coordinate with surgical teams.
• Respond to patient inquiries and resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure adherence to policies.
