Job summary

Humane Fort Wayne in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Surgery Suite Assistant/Transporter to help keep animals safe in the surgical suite and during transport. You will assist with kennels, loading/unloading, and ensuring clean, comfortable care before and after surgeries.

Work closely with Vet Assistants and Technicians, perform basic animal care, and follow safety protocols to protect animals and staff. A high school diploma or GED is required; experience in animal care or transport is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in patient care or animal handling preferred.
• Experience with animal transport highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Allen County and surrounding areas a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the comfort and safety of animals during transport.

• Maintain accurate records of transportation activities.

About the role

Have you always wanted to work with animals? Are you looking to get veterinary experience? We are seeking a Surgery Suite Assistant/Transporter to join our team in Fort Wayne. This role is vital in ensuring the safety and care of animals whether they are in the surgical suite or traveling.

Responsible for keeping kennels clean, lifting & crating animals, hygiene breaks and ensuring the safe recovery and transport of the animals in your care, your contributions will directly impact the lives of both pets and people.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the comfort and safety of animals during transport in Allen and surrounding counties.
• Assist in loading and unloading animals from vehicles.
• Maintain accurate records of transportation activities.
• Communicate effectively with staff regarding pet needs during transit.
• Follow all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of animals before and after surgical procedures.
• Provide basic care for animals, including feeding, hygiene breaks, and kennel cleaning.
• Support OR efforts by working directly with Vet Assistants and Technicians to support surgical operations.
