Job Description:

Assistants are required to support veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians to the fullest extent, helping improve patient care and achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical and administrative tasks. This position requires flexibility to assist in many areas while managing major responsibilities in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in pack prep with cleaning and sterilizing instruments.
  • Wrap and organize surgical instruments.
  • Assist with surgery laundry.
  • Prepare lab samples for outgoing laboratories.
  • Convey information accurately and professionally.
  • Invoice and prepare estimates.
  • Admit and discharge patients.
  • Assist technicians when transporting patients to CT, procedure, radiology, or recovery; help with moving the patient and attaching monitors.
  • Assist doctors in exam rooms by escorting clients, obtaining patient history, recording it on the medical record, measuring temperature and weight, and assisting with examination.
  • Help with end‑day duties.
  • Help keep patients clean and dry at all times.
  • Clean the radiology suite between patients and perform daily cleaning of the floor, table, shelf, and computer areas; vacuum hair behind the radiology table at least weekly.
  • Assist with outpatients or patients being discharged, including restraint, bandage changes, hygiene checks, and assistance with clients.
Additional Duties:
  • Restrain for various procedures, treatments, and exams.
  • Assist technicians with placing a patient under anesthesia (restraint, hooking monitoring equipment, vacuuming during prep/shave, sterile prep).
  • Recognize limits of knowledge and seek assistance when uncertain; ask a staff member.
  • Prepare appointments for the next day with necessary records.
  • Document all phone and in‑person conversations with clients in patient files or computer records, initialing all entries.
  • Help maintain anesthesia machines and monitors.
  • Access digital radiographs using Qlink software.
  • Operate portable and stationary digital radiography units.
  • Accurately record, maintain and review medical records, including treatment plans for nights, weekends, holidays, diagnostics, progress notes, and invoicing fees.
  • Communicate patient status to doctors, technicians, and clients.
  • Report all service and maintenance issues on all equipment to the Technician Lead or Supervisor.
  • Assist other primary care practitioners when necessary.
  • Restock supplies in Central Sterile, ORs, Induction, or other hospital areas as needed.
  • Prepare patients for discharge, ensuring they are well‑groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in all areas of the hospital.
  • Perform daily and weekly cleaning duties.
Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of customer service experience in a medical setting is required.
  • Veterinary experience is preferred.
  • A solid employment history with proven reliability.
  • The ability to work independently while being self‑driven and eager to grow.
  • A proactive mindset, always looking for process improvements and collaboration opportunities.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills are required; fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
