Job summary

McFarland Eye Care is looking for an experienced registered nurse to support operating room activities and perioperative care. You will administer medications, monitor vitals, and help with pre-op and post-op procedures according to physician protocol.

The role requires an Arkansas RN license, CPR certification, and the ability to work in a busy clinic and surgical setting. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, with attention to patient safety and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Must maintain current Arkansas license to practice as an RN.
• Must maintain current CPR Certification.
• Typing ability of 35 wpm.
• Experience in eye care clinic and surgery preferred.

Responsibilities

• On surgery days, perform Pre-Op or Post-Op duties and prepare the operating room.
• Administer and monitor medications and patient vitals.
• Assist OR staff and physicians with equipment, supplies, and gowning.
• Make post-op phone calls to review care and follow-up.
• Obtain medical history for surgical patients and schedule tests as needed.
• Assess clinic patients with medical needs and perform testing/injections when necessary.
• Review surgical charts for accuracy and prepare new charts.
• Answer patient/pharmacist calls and document conversations.
• Ensure discharge papers and Rx authorization are complete.
• Maintain supplies and hygiene in surgery rooms.

Also may assist in Clinic as necessary with patient medical needs. Builds rapport and a positive relationship with doctors, staff members, and patients.Essential Functions:1. On surgery days will be assigned in the OR to either Post-Op or Pre-Op duties to include:Prepare the operating room.Accurately complete all required documentation before and after surgery in a timely manner.Perform pre-op identification of patient and confirmation of procedure scheduled.Must follow the physician’s directions, comply with all surgical protocols, and follow all hygiene guidelines to ensure the safety of the patient.Prep and assist patients before surgery and assist patients after surgery. Administer and monitor patient medications, monitor patient vitalsAssist OR staff and physicians with equipment, supplies, and gowning.Dispose of biohazards in the appropriate manner.Maintain an adequate level of supplies in the surgery rooms at all times.Review post-op instructions with the patient and family. Ensure that discharge papers are signed and prescribed RX is complete and signed by the physician.Ensure that all equipment, medications, and instruments are properly cleaned, returned and secured to their designated location.As assigned answer phone calls from patients and pharmacists regarding medications, problems, Rx refills, enter Return Phone Call form conversations in the computer, etc.3. Make post-op phone calls to review post-operative care and confirm follow-up appointments.4. Obtain a thorough medical history on surgical patients as requested, order and schedule patients for tests/procedures as necessary; and requesting clearance as necessary.5. Assess patients in the clinic with medical needs (HTN, low or high blood sugar, chest pain, etc.) Direct care as outlined by protocol. Perform various testing and injections when necessary.6. Review surgical charts for accuracy and prepare new surgical charts.Education Required:High School diploma or equivalent.Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing for Registered NursingMust maintain current Arkansas license to practice as an RNMust maintain current CPR CertificationExperience/Skills/Other RequirementsRequired:Ability to work in a professional, positive and pleasant way with others at MEC.Typing ability of 35 wpm.Maintain a professional manner in stressful situationsStrong verbal communication skills in order to converse clearly and professionally with patients and staffDesired:Minimum of one year of experience in an eye care clinicMinimum of one year experience in surgeryMinimum of one year experience with electronic health records.Physical/Mental Demands:Regularly stand, walk, and sit.Occasional stress from a workload or from dealing with upset patients or emergency situations.Normal vision and hearing needed.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.This description is intended to provide basic guidelines for meeting job expectations.
