The Humane Society for Hamilton County is hiring a Surgery Coordinator to support our shelter in providing high-quality surgical and post‑operative care for the animals in our care. This role is perfect for someone with veterinary medical experience who is organized, detail‑oriented, calm under pressure, and comfortable supporting animals through every stage of the surgery process. If you have experience with clinical surgery, post‑operative care, medical record‑keeping, and compassionate animal handling, this is meaningful work with real impact every single day.

- Ensure animals receive proper post‑operative care according to veterinarian recommendations and HSHC standards.
- Help create and manage the weekly surgery schedule so animals are altered in a timely manner.
- Prioritize surgeries for animals waiting to go home, enter foster care, or move forward in their lifesaving journey.
- Communicate pre‑ and post‑operative care instructions to staff, medical managers, foster team members, and adopters.
- Schedule adopter pick‑up times and review post‑operative instructions at discharge.
- Maintain accurate surgery notes, medical records, and follow‑up care information in PetPoint.
- Support animals requiring special or critical care, including insulin‑dependent animals, animals needing hand feeding, sub‑Q fluids, special diets, or other in‑house care plans.
- Assist with outsourced veterinary and specialty care cases, including orthopedic, neurology, and other advanced care needs.
- Help keep the surgery suite, operating room, x‑ray room, equipment, and surgery laundry clean, organized, and ready for use.
- Support proper handling, tracking, and security of controlled substances in accordance with DEA regulations and HSHC protocols.
- Assist the Medical Department as needed.
- Participate in holiday scheduling and after‑hours emergency support.
- Take on additional operational and medical support duties as assigned.
