This executive leadership role puts you in charge of a high-performing surgery center as its own business unit. You will run the center end to end, including the operating rooms, the team, purchasing, and the profit and loss, with pay that grows with the results you deliver.
The surgery center drives a large share of revenue for a profitable, physician-founded specialty group that is expanding into new markets. Each new market is planned to include several clinics and its own surgery center, so this role has a clear path to leading more than one center.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of about seven direct reports, including operating room nursing leadership, aftercare nursing, scheduling, supply chain, and front desk, plus per diem staff.
- Direct daily surgical operations, including OR scheduling, patient flow, and a smooth experience on the day of surgery.
- Own the center's profit and loss, from supply and cost control to meeting profitability targets.
- Manage purchasing and vendor relationships so the OR stays fully stocked and spending stays disciplined.
- Keep the center ready for survey at all times across safety, accreditation, credentialing, and facilities.
- Make sure case documentation is clear and complete to support billing for injury-related and workers' compensation cases. You will oversee a dedicated coding team rather than code yourself.
- Partner closely with the founding surgeon and senior leaders on growth plans and new markets.
- Lead from the floor, working side by side with your team and surgeons in the center every day.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience running or directly leading a surgery center or surgical department; orthopedic or spine experience is ideal.
- Budget or profit and loss management experience.
- Track record of leading both clinical and administrative teams and holding them accountable.
- Working knowledge of OR operations, supply chain, and implant purchasing.
- Confidence and resilience to work directly with a demanding, high-standards physician founder.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (proven experience running a center matters more).
- Experience with workers' compensation or injury-related cases.
- Multi-site leadership experience.
- Accreditation and survey readiness experience (for example, AAAHC or The Joint Commission).
