Job summary

Novant Health in the Greater Charlotte and Winston-Salem area seeks a Surgical Technologist to support the surgical services float pool. You will assist in invasive procedures, maintain sterile technique, and ensure patient safety under surgeon and scrub nurse supervision.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures in the OR.
• Ensure the operating room is safe, equipment functions properly, and procedures maximize patient safety.
• Work across Greater Charlotte and Greater Winston-Salem facilities as part of the Enterprise Team in Surgical Services (float pool).

What We Offer

• Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours, day shift. Shifts are 8 hours, start time typically within a window of 6:15 A‑7:30 A, Monday‑Friday.
• Department: Surgical Services float pool, operating room.
• Location: Float to both Charlotte and Winston‑Salem. Covers 23 inpatient facilities and ambulatory surgery centers. No single fixed location.
• Requirements: Minimum two years previous surgical technologist experience and current NBSTSA certification.

What You’ll Do

The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

Surgical technologists possess expertise in sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

These technologists work in all facilities within the Greater Charlotte and Greater Winston‑Salem markets, as part of the Enterprise Team within Surgical Services. The specialties within the Surgical Services Float Pool include Sterile Processing, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Pre‑Op/Phase II, and PACU.

What We’re Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or Military Training Equivalent (68D – Operating Room Specialist). Online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted.
• Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience required.
• Licensure/Certification: Current NBSTSA certification required.
• Additional Skills: New graduates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire. Ability to complete generic and department‑specific skill validation and competency testing. Demonstrate effective customer service, verbal and nonverbal communication, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills.
