Job summary

Heartshare seeks a Per Diem Activity Specialist to supervise and engage a group of school-age children after school. You will assist with homework, lead arts, dance, STEM, literacy, nutrition, or sports activities, and ensure a safe, supportive environment.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and 1–2 years of youth experience; an Associate's degree is preferred. Must work in Coney Island, Brooklyn, with hours 2:00pm–9:00pm on weekdays or 9:00am–4:00pm on Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing age-appropriate activities in one or more disciplines.
• Provide direct supervision of youth activities.
• Submit weekly activity plans and lead themed activities (arts, dance, STEM, literacy, nutrition, or organized sports).
• Maintain daily attendance records for participants and assist with basic counseling services as needed (peer mediation, self-control, decision making).
• Accompany youth on field trips and ensure a safe environment.
• Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere and collaborate with staff.
• Participate in professional development, supervision, and team meetings.
• Maintain and organize activities and equipment.

This includes assisting with homework, leading recreational and educational activities, and ensuring a safe, supportive environment. The Activity Specialist will have specialized skills and expertise in one or more or content area to lead and implement an activity such as arts, dance, STEM, literacy, nutrition or organized sports.Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities of Position:Assist in the development of age-appropriate activities in one or more discipline or content areaProvide direct supervision of youth activitiesSubmit weekly activity plansLead activities related to recreation and theme based such as (Arts, Dance, STEM, Literacy, Nutrition, or Organized sports.Assist in maintaining daily attendance records for program participantsAssist in the provision of basic counseling services as needed (peer mediation, self-control, decision making)Accompany youth on cultural and recreational field tripsAssist in ensuring a safe environment for program participantsFoster a positive, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere; Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate group activitiesActively participate in all professional development sessions, supervision, and team meetingsMaintain and organize activities and equipmentPerforms other job-related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope, responsibilities, and level of the position, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.High school diploma or GED RequiredAssociate's degree in child development, recreation, or a related field PreferredMinimum of 1-2 years' experience working with youth in child development, recreation, or a related fieldMust be able to work in Coney Island, Brooklyn and have availability to work; Monday - Friday 2:00pm - 9pm or Saturday 9am - 4pmHeartshare is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
